Behind the Scenes – The Making of
At FancyCarTours everything revolves around creating special travel experiences for our participants. What actually goes into mapping out a new edition? In Behind the Scenes – The Making of we give you an exclusive look at the process: from finding the perfect routes to planning the stops.
In this issue we take you through the preparation of the Vosges edition, 16–19 May 2025.
Mapping the routes (test drive)
Mapping a route is about finding the perfect balance between beautiful roads and timing. This time our challenge was to create a new edition in the Vosges. After researching the area and its highlights online, we headed out with GPS trackers, Google Maps and timers to record the routes in real time.
We drive every route ourselves to check road condition — and with low cars in mind we avoid large speed bumps, potholes and other obstacles wherever we can. Exploring the roads ourselves lets us optimise the track and offer only the finest roads.
Along the way we constantly watch for scenic spots perfect for photo and video. Using GPS coordinates we mark every photogenic place and share them with our media team.
Day 1
The Vosges is a stunning mountain range in France, full of picturesque villages, breathtaking views and hidden gems. On day 1 we mainly drive the iconic mountains, including the Grand Ballon (the highest peak) and the Route des Crêtes — a panoramic road that winds through the heart of the Vosges past famous cols.
Some sections could not yet be driven because the roads were closed due to snow. The main outline of the route is complete; we will re-check the rest at a later date.
Day 2
On day 2 we also managed a varied route, using the Route du Vin as our guide — one of the region’s best-known scenic drives through the heart of Alsace and France’s wine country.
This ride is a different adventure from the mountainous day 1: winding through vineyards and traditional villages such as Riquewihr, Eguisheim and Kaysersberg, famous for their half-timbered houses and wine taverns.
We cannot wait to explore the Vosges with our participants in May and bring this new route to life!

Once again we put together a strong programme for the Vosges edition. Despite the snow we managed to build a new edition in a single weekend. We are excited about the variety of drives and the beautiful places we selected.
It promises to be another great experience — and we cannot wait to explore the Vosges with our participants in May and bring this new route to life!
